Stefanie Schikora
Artista alemana contemporánea, que radica desde 1994 en Mérida, Yucatán.
Su trabajo se encuentra en el rango figurativo-abstracto.
A pesar de la mezcla y exploración de diferentes estilos y corrientes, Stefanie Schikora muestra un estilo propio, fresco e inconfundible.
Cuadros para convivir
es mi propósito artístico. A parte de su valor decorativo, tengo la intención de generar sentimientos positivos con mi obra. Un cuadro debe ser como una compañía agradable, que aporta algo valioso en la vida, algo que toca el interior.
Los temas van desde el cuerpo humano, la mitología, hasta los seres fantásticos, a veces narro una historia. En la búsqueda a una expresión virgen, fresca, espontánea, dejo a un lado la realidad, mezclo técnicas, lo abstracto con lo figurativo, y doy énfasis a la sensación que producen los colores.
La frase celebre: "El arte no es la representación de una cosa bella, es la bella representación de una cosa”.
(Immanuel Kant, filósofo alemán) se ha vuelto una lema para ella.
Realizo mi trabajo principalmente en acrílico sobre tela o sobre papel, así como técnicas mixtas y dibujo. También utilizo papeles, telas, arena, materiales naturales,
etc., para lograr texturas diferentes. Desarrollé una técnica de trabajo sobre lienzos previamente preparados con costuras.
“Los dibujos de los niños han sido para mi una fuente de inspiración, porque ellos tienen una manera fresca de ver y la capacidad de visualizar la esencia de las cosas”.
Curriculum
Stefanie Schikora nace el 8 de Mayo de 1966 en Mannheim, Alemania. Realiza el bachillerato especializado en Arte y Diseño en 1986 y al finalizarlo estudia la carrera de Diseño Gráfico en la Escuela Superior de Wiesbaden, Alemania. Durante su formación va mostrando su talento artístico y su pasión por la pintura, dibujo e Ilustración.
En 1991, al obtener la Licenciatura en Diseño Gráfico, Stefanie decide, por recomendación de una profesora, continuar sus estudios en Diseño de Moda en la Escuela Superior de Hamburgo. Por su interés e inclinación hacia el arte, dió énfasis a las asignaturas de Dibujo, Pintura e Ilustración. En 1994 finaliza sus estudios en la FHS Hamburgo y empieza a trabajar libremente como pintora.
Sus primeras exposiciones individuales y colectivas se realizan después de 1991, así como su primera colaboración como Diseñadora en una agencia de publicidad en Alemania. Un viaje a México en 1993, la motiva a permanecer por más tiempo en Mérida, donde radica desde 1994, trabajando como artista y en las áreas de diseño, mural, ilustración y enseñanza.
A partir de entonces ha realizado más de 70 exposiciones individuales y colectivas en Alemania, México y Belice.

is a contemporary artist from Germany, who has been living in Mérida,Yucatan, since 1994. Her work can be described as figurative abstract.
-Paintings to live with-“, is my artistic purpose. Apart of their decorative value, I have the intention to generate positive sensations with my work.
### A painting should be like a pleasant company, which contributes a value to your live, something which touches the interior.
Motives range from the human body, mythology and fantasy beings to sometimes telling a story. However, the main issue is the search for a virgin expression, fresh and spontaneous, forgetting reality, mixing techniques, the abstract with the figurative, and I emphasize the feelings produced by the colors.
As in the famous quotation:
“Art is not the representation of a beautiful object, but the beautiful representation of an object,” by Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, has become her motto.
Stefanie mostly uses acrylic paint on canvas or paper, drawing as well as mixed techniques. To create different textures she also includes various types of paper and fabric, sand and natural materials, among others and she developed a technique of working on canvases previously prepared with seams.
“I am also inspired by children’s drawings because they see things in a fresh way and are able to visualize the essence of things.
Curriculum
Stefanie Schikora was born on the eighth of May, 1966, in Mannheim, Germany. In 1986 she concluded her Bachelor of Arts, specializing in art and design and, afterwards, studied Graphic Design at the Wiesbaden Art College. During her studies her artistic talent and her passion for painting, drawing and illustration became evident.
In 1991, after graduating from the Wiesbaden Art College, she enrolled at the College of Fashion Design in Hamburg, with special emphasis on drawing, painting and illustration. In 1994 she graduated and started working as a freelance painter. She had her first individual and group expositions after 1991 and also collaborated for the first time as a designer in a Public Relations Agency in Germany.
A trip to Mexico in 1993 motivated her to move to Merida , where she has been living since 1994, working as an artist and in the fields of design, murals, illustration and teaching. Since then, she has had over 70 individual and group expositions.

¿Qué se necesita para ser ilustradora de libros para niños? ¿Se necesita ser una bellísima niña grandota como Stefanie Schikora?
Al verla pasar por las calles de Mérida, los yucatecos vuelven la cabeza no sólo con tal de ver sus largas piernas, sino porque Stefanie Schikora capta en su libreta de apuntes sus expresiones. Pintora, ha hecho varias exposiciones y sus cuadros se encuentran en algunas casas yucatecas.
"Nací en Manheim, Alemania, en 1966, el Día de las Madres, que allá se celebra el 8 de mayo, y dice mi mamá que fui su mejor regalo. Siempre pinté. Desde niña gané concursos en la escuela e invitaron a todo mi salón a un paseo para festejar mis premios: expusieron mis trabajos en los pasillos de la escuela y yo estaba muy orgullosa".
"Primero estudié diseño gráfico y después diseño de moda en Wiesbaden y Hamburgo. La gente que se dedica a la moda se cree mucho y es muy superficial, pero en esta misma escuela había varios artistas y daban clases de dibujo y diseño, y yo entré y aprendí muchísimo, tanto que empecé a pintar".
"De Hamburgo vine de vacaciones a Mérida a ver a mi hermana, que está casada con el fotógrafo Víctor Rendón, quien por desgracia murió hace tres años. Mérida me fascinó, hice click con los yucatecos, me sentí muy cómoda y pensé:
"Esta no va a ser la última vez que venga. Regresé al año siguiente para quedarme un año. Conocí a Ariel Guzmán, pintor y amigo de Víctor Rendón, y empezamos a trabajar juntos en diseño, ilustración y artesanías".
"Nos enamoramos y perdí mi boleto de regreso a Alemania y mis padres ganaron una segunda hija enamorada de Yucatán y dos nietos yucatecos más: Pablo, que ahora tiene 11 años, y Stella, de ocho. Por lo visto, los dos van a ser pintores y yo me he inspirado mucho en ellos para mis dibujos".
"Siempre me había gustado hacer dibujos para niños, pero nunca tuve oportunidad hasta que ilustré el cuento A Lucas todo le sale mal, que María Luisa Puga escribió antes de morir para el hijo de una de mis mejores amigas en Mérida. Lo publicó el Fondo de Cultura Económica y el libro ha tenido tanta respuesta que me han pedido otras ilustraciones. Mi pintura es para niños, pero lo mío es figurativo, no es ni ilustrativo ni realista. Busco la esencia de las cosas. Una cosa es el arte y otra la ilustración que sigue al cuento al pie de la letra".
"Como uso mucho color, a los niños les resulto muy alegre, pero es que desde que vivo en Mérida mi pintura se ha vuelto feliz y libre, mis colores mucho más vivos. La forma de vivir influye en el ánimo al pintar".
"Dar cursos de pintura también me fascina. Tengo cuatro grupos para niños y uno para adultos. Yo doy todos los materiales y veo que niños de todas las edades y adultos que llegan hasta los 70 están aprendiendo. Hacemos exposiciones a fin de año y resultan un gran acontecimiento en su vida".

What do you need to be an illustrator of children`s books? Do you need to be a gorgeous little girl like Stefanie Schikora?
Walking through the streets of Mêrida the Yucatecans not only turn their heads to look at her long legs but also because she sketches their expressions into her notebook. She is a painter who has had several expositions, and you can find her work in Yucatecan homes.
“I was born in Mannheim Germany, on Mother´s day in 1966, which is celebrated on May 8. My mother says that I was her greatest gift. I have always painted. As a girl I used to win painting contests, and then everybody in my class was invited for an excursion to celebrate my awards. Later my work was exhibited in the hallways of the school and I was very proud.”
“First I studied graphic design and then fashion design in Wiesbaden and Hamburg. People dedicated to fashion are often arrogant and very superficial, however, at the same school there were also several artists teaching drawing and design, so I joined their classes . Here I learned a lot, and started to paint.” “In 1993 I went to Mérida on vacation to see my sister who was married to Victor Rendón, a photographer, who died 3 years ago. I was fascinated by Mérida and felt connected to the Yucatecans. I felt very comfortable here and thought to myself that this was not going to be my last visit .
The following year I returned to stay for twelve months.
I met Ariel Guzmán, a painter and friend of Victor Rendón, and we began to work together on design, illustration and handcrafts.
We fell in love and I lost my return ticket to Germany. My parents gained a second daughter in love with Yucatán, and two more Yucatecan grandchildren: Pablo, who is 11 years old now and Stella, age 8. As far as I can see both will be painters and they have been a strong source of inspiration to my art work.”
“I had always wanted to draw for children but I had not had a chance until illustrating the story “A Lucas Todo Le Sale Mal”, written by Maria Luisa Puga before she died. The book was created for one of my best friend´s son in Mérida. It was published by the “Fondo de Cultura Económica”, and I received a lot of positive feedback. As a result, I was asked to do more illustrations. I paint for children, but I do figurative, not illustrative or realistic painting. I´m always looking for the essence of things. Art is one thing, but illustration quite another, because you must follow a story step by step.”
“Since I use a lot of colors children find my work cheerful. After I began living in Mérida my painting has become free and happy with stronger, livelier colors. One´s way of life influences one´s state of mind towards painting.“
“Teaching painting is fascinating. I have formed 4 groups for children and one for adults. I provide all the materials and make sure that children and adults of all ages are learning. At the end of the year we organize expositions which turn out to be a great event in the students´ life.”
